About Book
When Rain Remembers Us is a contemporary romance told in two interconnected parts— Before the Rain and After the Storm—tracing the emotional journeys of two people learning how to survive, heal, and choose love without losing themselves.
Part One: Before the Rain
Kal has spent his life learning how to disappear. Born with visible scars from an accident before birth, he grows up navigating cruelty, isolation, and a world that sees his differences before his humanity. Quiet, observant, and deeply intelligent, Kal finds safety in silence and in the small circle of love shared with his mother and grandmother.
Kim enters his carefully controlled world like sunlight breaking through clouds. Talkative, impulsive, and openly expressive, she hides her own wounds behind laughter. Her home life is fractured, defined by a broken marriage and an abusive stepfather and though she appears fearless, Kim carries a constant ache for safety and belonging. Their connection builds slowly, shaped by shared conversations, misunderstandings, tender moments, and emotional closeness. Kal begins to trust, while Kim learns what it means to be truly seen. Yet fear, past trauma, and Kal’s belief that love is not meant for someone like him quietly begin to strain their bond.

Amrah Anwar –
I was kindly sent this beautiful little book by Hifza herself and I genuinely enjoyed the experience of reading it.
When Rain Remembers Us is a debut novel, and there’s a lot to appreciate about what Hifza Samad has accomplished as a new author.
The prose is beautiful and the fast-paced narrative made it an easy and engaging read.
However, the plot felt predictable at times and gave me strong Wattpad-era vibes???especially with the high school and university drama throughout the story.
What I appreciated most however, was how expressive the male main character felt. Not necessarily through his words, but through the way the author allowed us to understand his perspective and emotions. While there were moments of miscommunication between the characters, they never became frustrating or overdone. The ending though felt a little clichéd for my personal taste.
My favourite moment in the book? When Kal offered his mother’s dress to Kim for prom. It was such a soft, tender gesture and I absolutely loved that scene.
Overall, I can clearly see Hifza Samad’s potential as a debut author. There’s a great deal of thought and care behind this story, and I’m excited to see what she writes next.🩵
