About Book
What happens when a mountain that has witnessed centuries of war meets a man who has spent twenty years forgetting where he came from? And what happens when a woman leaves an old book on a library table, and everything begins to crack? The Cartography of Pain is the story of the Khyber Pass, yes. But it is also the story of two people finding each other across silence, shame, and the borders drawn by strangers. It is a novel about empires and poetry, drones and tappas, and the love that survives when everything else has burned.
About Author
Shehbaz Siraj hails from Peshawar, Pakistan, and currently lives in Italy. Born into a Pashtun family, he grew up in the shadow of the Khyber Pass—a land that has witnessed centuries of invasion, from the Mughals to the drones. He now teaches English at the Italian Air Force and is pursuing a PhD in English Literature. The Cartography of Pain is his first novel. It was born from a question he could no longer avoid: what did he lose when he stopped listening to his father’s poetry? The answer became this book.
